
She is an inspiration to America, leading the way a true powerful mother could only. She’s the wife of Vice President Joe Biden and the current first lady of the United States. As the former second lady of the United States, she served in that position from 2009 to 2017. In 2009, Biden joined Northern Virginia Community College as an English professor. A graduate of West Chester University and Villanova University with a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in education, she also holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a graduate degree in communication from the University of Delaware. She taught English and reading at high schools for thirteen years and worked in a psychiatric hospital teaching adolescents who had emotional disabilities. At Delaware Technical & Community College, Biden taught English and writing for more than 20 years during the period 1993 to 2008. The vice president’s wife is believed to be the first woman to hold a paid position throughout the presidency of her husband. She may have been the first woman to do so. Born in Hammonton, New Jersey, she grew up in Willow Grove, PA. The couple married in 1977, and she became a stepmother to Beau and Hunter. Ashley Biden, born in 1981, is her daughter with her husband. The Biden Breast Health Initiative is her nonprofit organization, Book Buddies is a program she founded with Michelle Obama, and she co-founded the Biden Foundation. She is also an active Delaware Boots on the Ground volunteer. Two children’s books and a memoir have been published by her.
